Christian Counseling

Isaiah 61

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me…
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted…
To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor…
To comfort all who mourn
and provide for those who grieve in Zion
To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes
The oil of gladness instead of mourning
And a garment of praise instead of despair.

This isn’t easy.

For most people, choosing a counselor is a bit complicated.

I was reading another counselor’s website a while ago, and she said that choosing a counselor is a lot like dating.

I had never heard it put that way, but I think there is a lot of truth there.

You have a question.

Understandably, you have a lot of questions as you’re making this decision.

For many people one of the questions is, “Will this person respect my Christian faith?”

The answer is, “Yes, I will.”

My faith is the most important part of my life.

To me faith is the filter through which I view the world and my place in it.

Because of this priority, I’ve spent years studying Christian theology, and my doctoral degree in psychology and counseling was earned at a graduate school for vocational ministry.

I believe it’s possible to integrate the truth of the Bible with knowledge gained from psychology and neuroscience. I continue to learn from both areas – psychology and theology.

Having a personal Christian walk is not a prerequisite.

Not everyone comes to me because of my faith perspective – some don’t really know and aren’t interested. And that’s fine.

A large part of my life experience has been living among and working with people of different faiths, cultures, languages, and ethnicities. I find that kind of relationship rewarding and invigorating.

I don’t impose my beliefs on others.

I value those searching for spiritual help.

So, as you’re making your decision about someone with whom to work, I ask you to consider what I have to offer.

If you’re looking for someone who values your Christian faith and is equipped to look deeply at spiritual issues, I believe I can help – and I would be honored to work with you.

My calling is to bring relief from suffering.

The words from Isaiah 61 at the top of the page are very meaningful to me. They speak of God’s ability to heal and transform the painful and broken places of our lives.

I consider it a privilege when I’m allowed to have a part in that process.

The work I do is more than a job; it’s a calling and a sacred trust.
